Dr Chris Longhurst

As Chief Information Officer, UC San Diego Health, Dr Longhurst is responsible for operations and strategic planning for information and communications technology across multiple hospitals, clinics, and professional schools. He previously served as Chief Medical Information Officer for Stanford Children’s Health and was Clinical Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he led the organisation through the implementation of a comprehensive EMR for over a decade. This work culminated in HIMSS Stage 7 awards for both Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and 167 network practices in Stanford Children’s Health. He has published dozens of scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals on how technology and data can improve patient care and outcomes and was elected as a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Medical Informatics. Dr Longhurst is a founder of the Green Button project, and provides continued support for the CRE to access Green Button technologies and datasets. His unique experience in setting up the first post-doctoral health informatics fellowship programme to be accredited in the US provides invaluable input to the design of the CRE training programmes.
