Bio
CIE: Emeritus Professor Liaw was the Professor of General Practice, UNSW Sydney until the end of 2020. He is an academic GP with expertise in mixed methodologies including case studies, qualitative methods, and controlled studies including pre-and-post, post-test-only and randomised controlled trials. His domain expertise is in patient-held health records, multidisciplinary care, general practice and integrated care informatics and clinical decision support, focused on diabetes and asthma, quality use of medicines, mental health, cross-cultural and Aboriginal health. He co-founded the UNSW WHO Collaborating Centre in eHealth which has a focus on community development and building capacity in informatics and program evaluation in the Western Pacific and South Asia regions.
Qualifications: MBBS (Tasmania, 1976); PhD (Health informatics, Flinders University, 1994); Fellow, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (1989); Foundation Fellow, Australasian College of Health Informatics (2002); Fellow, American College of Medical Informatics (2012), Member, Inaugural Class (2017) International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics.
