The Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University are seeking suitably qualified candidates with pioneering ideas for research into understanding the current health system response to the pandemic and strategies for future crisis preparedness.
They have FIVE scholarships available with the Ph.D. topic to be determined taking into account the interests, experience, and prior training of the successful candidate.

- Addressing safety and ethics of AI in healthcare
- Applying and evaluating AI technologies to improve clinical decision-making
- Co-designing and investigating the role of digital health with consumers
- Development of technologies for rapid, large-scale screening and monitoring of COVID-19 using smartphones and activity trackers
- Evaluating health communication strategies and teamwork during a crisis
- Evaluating how hospital clinical information systems were adapted to support work
- Optimizing virtual services to support out of hospital care in a crisis
- Understanding the experience of healthcare workers during COVID-19
- Understanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older people in residential care and in the community
Availability
This scholarship is available to eligible domestic candidates to undertake a direct entry 3-year Ph.D. program. The candidate will need to have a high-grade point average and be eligible for direct entry to the Macquarie University PhD program with either a 20,000-word minimum Master’s thesis or be first author on at least one peer-reviewed publication.
Scholarship Components
The scholarship is comprised of a Tuition Fee Offset and a Living Allowance Stipend. The value and tenure of the scholarship is an “MQRES” full-time stipend rate of $28,597 per annum (2021 rate, tax-exempt for up to 3 years – indexed annually).
